Matt D’Amico recorded a hat trick as Pittsford Mendon defeated Irondequoit 5-1 in a Monroe County Division II boys soccer game Tuesday at Mendon.

The Vikings improved to 7-0 overall and 4-0 in Division II to stay in first place. The Eagles fell to 1-4 overall and 1-3 in the division.

Mendon played aggressive early on, generating several chances. Through 20 minutes though, the game was scoreless.

D’Amico gave the Vikings the lead when he scored in the 22nd minute. Less than two minutes later, D’Amico earned his second goal of the game as the Vikings went into halftime with a 2-0 lead.

Mendon maintained control of the game into the second half and D’Amico netted his hat trick in the 55th minute. The goal sparked Irondequoit though, who quickly gained control of the possession.

Eagles senior midfielder Liam McKee drew a penalty in the box less than two minutes later. McKee was awarded a penalty kick and despite being denied on the initial attempt, McKee knocked the rebound past Viking goalkeeper Aaron Fowlkes.

Irondequoit maintained the possession, but Fowlkes proved up to the challenge denying a strong chance by Zach Zlotnick in the 66th minute.

Cam Perna sewed up the victory for Mendon, scoring the Vikings fourth goal with 5:46 remaining. Mendon senior defender Michael Kazour added the team’s fifth goal less than a minute later.

Fowlkes recorded seven saves for the Vikings.

Mendon is back in action at 4:30 p.m. Thursday when they host Canandaigua, while the Eagles play at HF-L at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
