Midlakes standout Mitchell Priebe didn’t exactly coast to victory, even though the times would suggest he didn’t have much trouble doing so. Priebe finished the course at North Rose-Wolcott in 16:59 — 15 seconds faster than anyone else — to take first place in the Wayne-Finger Lakes League Championship Meet on Saturday afternoon.

Priebe, a junior, beat out a pair of seniors in Wayne’s Colin Kerr and Geneva’s Matt VanDeMortal, who rounded out the top three finishers in the boys race.

As a team, Geneva came out on top to claim its first league championship in school history, and first-year head coach Sarah Eighmey was named Coach of the Year. It went Geneva (93 points), Wayne (118), Honeoye (130), Williamson (132), and Red Creek (137) rounding out the top five. Marcus Whitman and Midlakes were sixth and seventh, respectively.

The girls race was a showdown between Red Jacket’s Shealyn Doody and Marcus Whitman’s Audrey Button. The two sophomore stars did not disappoint as both battled well ahead of the rest of the field, with Doody earning first place in 19:35 and Button in second in 19:44. The next closest was Geneva senior Michelle Collins (20:15).

The team scores were very different, as Red Creek claimed the team title with 68 points. Midlakes was second (137), followed by Wayne (142), Geneva (156) and Pal-Mac (178).

At the Monroe County League Championship Meet at Parma Park, Canandaigua Academy’s Kennedy Jensen finished in second place in the girls’ race behind Penfield Katie Lembo. Lembo clocked in at 17:31, 13 seconds faster than Jensen’s time. Irondequoit’s Georgia Tuttle, Webster Thomas’ Eileen O’Hara, and Webster Schroeder’s Val Palermo rounded out the top five individual finishers.

The Braves finished third as a team with 112 points behind Rush-Henrietta (97) and Penfield (102). Pittsford Mendon and Hilton finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

In the boys race, Hilton’s Tyler Ranke held off Irondequoit’s Josh Dyrland to take the top spot in a time of 15:42. Keith Pease (Athena), Jack Wesley (Pittsford Mendon), and Will Ronchetti (Brighton) rounded out the top five spots. Mendon won the team competition with 81 points, followed by Webster Thomas (98), Fairport (100), Irondequoit (124) and Hilton (162).
