Reflecting on the numerous letters written to the Irondequoit Post last week about the condition of Irondequoit, I’ve come to the realization that I agree with them too.
The Titus/Cooper area is an eyesore. A lot of the established businesses in that area are an eyesore too. Trash around their businesses, weeds growing up around them, buildings looking old and worn. These owners must think that if they don’t take care of their property, somebody else will. I Square would be a wonderful and welcome improvement to that area. Let’s hope cooler heads prevail and the project moves forward. We certainly need it.
As far as Irondequoit Plaza goes, that place looks like a dumping ground. The parking lot looks like a patchwork of pothole repairs. It needs to be cleaned up and re-designed. Cars are always going every which way. I’m surprised there aren’t more accidents there (or maybe there are and I just don’t know about them). Garbage is always blowing around that parking lot. Or is it the new landfill for Monroe County? What garbage doesn’t stay in the plaza gets blown across Hudson Avenue to the empty, weed-strewn lot that’s been for sale almost as long as I’ve lived here (34 years). Where are the owners of these properties? Aren’t there any rules or regulations in Irondequoit as to how owners should take care of their property? I have a house across the street from me that’s been left to deteroriate and has been empty for the last 15 years (with the exception of someone living there for two years).
It’s no wonder that I’m seriously thinking of moving to Webster. This town and its leadership are deteriorating, and many don’t seem to care.
