Two women were rescued from a fire escape Tuesday after they were trapped by a late night blaze.
Firefighters tell newspartner News10NBC the fire started around 11:30 p.m. on the first floor of an apartment complex on Portland Parkway off of Portland Avenue in Irondequoit. They say a first floor apartment at the building at one point was fully engulfed.
Two women, who are believed to be mother and daughter, were rescued from from the second floor fire escape after they were trapped by the fire. Three others were able to escape the blaze on their own.
Firefighters say heavy smoke made its way to the second floor where the two people were trapped. They also say five people were examined by ambulance crews for smoke inhalation following the blaze.
