Event Highlights:

1
On the morning of Saturday, June 2, former Gates Police Officer Sung “Sonny” Chung was killed in a one-car crash in Greece. Police say Chung, 46, was walking on West Ridge Road when a driver lost control of their SUV and hit him.
Officer Chung retired from Gates Police Department in 2002, after a crash that left him with severe head trauma. He was responding to a call when his police cruiser slammed into a tree.
A frequent visitor, he stopped by the Gates Police Department just days before the accident.

2
On Friday, July 27, The Gates Police Department and the Gates Fire District will face off in a charity softball game in Chung’s honor. It will be chief versus chief, police versus firefighters at 6 p.m. on the Gates-Chili High School varsity baseball diamond. Refreshments will be available in case you get thirsty in the heat of the competition.

3
Seats for this exciting game cost $5. All proceeds from the event will go into an education fund for Sung’s two sons.

Why you should go:
“Sonny was a great officer and a true family man.  He displayed great strength and courage recovering from his first accident, making a remarkable recovery and continuing to touch everyones lives he came into contact with.  He continued to push forward becoming stronger everyday, and developing his sons into young men.
This benefit game is our way of giving something back to Sonny and his family for the time they allowed us to spend with him.  We love him and will continue to miss him greatly!”
