Melissa Jones will be back in court next week.
The Canandaigua woman who was accused earlier this year of faking she had cancer will be in Ontario County Court before Judge William Kocher 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 23.
Jones, 30, was originally scheduled to appear in court Friday; however, the case was adjourned and rescheduled for Tuesday.
According to Ontario County District Attorney R. Michael Tantillo, the case was adjourned because Jones’ lawyer said he was involved in a trial in another court.
Jones was indicted in May on 16 charges, including varying degrees of grand larceny, criminal possession of a forged instrument, falsifying business records and scheme to defraud, related to fundraisers in New York and Massachusetts in which prosecutors say more than $30,000 was raised on her behalf.
Kocher said that if Jones is convicted at trial, she faces 10 to 20 years in prison. Jones was offered a new plea bargain Oct. 10 — the deadline to accept was originally Friday. If Jones pleads guilty, she'll serve one to five years.
