The Irondequoit Bay Outlet Bridge (IBOB) will open to vehicular traffic about 9:30 a.m. next Thursday, Nov. 1. The seasonal span will remain in place for cars through March 31, 2013.
The bridge is located on the north end of Irondequoit Bay, and spans between Culver Road in the town of Irondequoit and Lake Road in the town of Webster. The seasonal swing bridge is designed to span the outlet for vehicular traffic during the winter months.
The Monroe County Department of Transportation (DOT) maintains and operates IBOB in accordance with permits granted by the U.S. Coast Guard.
The process of swinging the bridge into place takes nearly 30 minutes, depending on weather conditions. However, there is a two-hour preparation work period up to and after the actual swinging of the bridge.
