Irondequoit High School students Victoria Colasurdo and Alexa Mummery are organizing a knee hockey tournament beginning at 9 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, in the gymnasium at Irondequoit High School, 260 Cooper Road, to benefit the Tyler Putnam Foundation.
Tyler Putnam was a 16-year-old hockey player who tragically and suddenly lost his life July 7, 2011 due to meningitis. The foundation was created to represent his memory and help financially aid families who have lost a child pay for hockey fees.
Victoria described knee hockey as a knee “miniature” game that is played on the knees with small sticks and small nets.
The event is open to potential participants and will be open Nov. 11 to spectators.
The deadline for team registration is this coming Monday, Oct. 22. A sign-up sheet is available at tylerputnamfoundation.org or by picking one up in the main office at Irondequoit High School, 260 Cooper Road.
Call Victoria at (585) 544-0393 with questions or for more information.
