HMX Acquisition Corp. — the owner of the Hickey Freeman and Hart Schaffner Marx clothing brands — has filed for bankruptcy protection. That's according to a report posted on Bloomberg.com

In addition, the company has filed a warn notice with the New York State Department of Labor. That means there is the potential for the Hickey Freeman plant in Rochester to close. That would impact 431 local employees.

According to Bloomberg, the company has assets of less than $50,000 and debt of more than $50-million. HMX Acquisition Corp plans to sell its assets to Authentic Brands.
