Four cars were damaged in an unusual accident at the intersection of Hudson Avenue and East Ridge Road Saturday morning yet, miraculously, only one person was injured.
According to the Irondequoit Police report, Dawn Morgan, 50, was leaving the Delta Sonic car wash at 615 E. Ridge Road, in Irondequoit, in her 2009 Toyota four-door sedan just after 9 a.m. this past Saturday, Oct. 9, when her car’s accelerator began to race when she put it into gear.
She told police she was unable to stop the vehicle. She was observed leaving the Delta Sonic at a high rate of speed, striking a sign, then turning eastbound on Ridge Road.
She said she was able to make a left turn onto Hudson in an attempt to avoid a collision with other cars already at the intersection, at a red light.
Morgan’s car then struck a curb at the northeast corner of the intersection, causing her vehicle to go airborne and land in the parking lot of Walgreens, 700 E. Ridge Road, below. There, her car struck and damaged three unoccupied, parked cars.
Police said Morgan, who was not charged, was transported to Rochester General Hospital for a minor injury.
An employee of Walgreens turned a parking lot video of the accident over to officers.
