Family of teen injured in Brighton bus crash releases statement

The family of Scott Collins, the Brighton High School student who was severely injured in an Oct. 9 car-on-school bus accident in Brighton, released the following statement today:

Scott Collins sustained significant injuries in a motor vehicle accident on October 9, 2012. He continues to receive medical care at Strong Memorial Hospital.

Scott is breathing on his own but is in need of continued treatment.

Scott will be undergoing acute intensive therapy at a specialized facility. He is at the beginning of what will be a long road to recovery.

The family requests respect for their privacy during this difficult time. Their sole focus is on Scott's treatment and recovery.

The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation for the incredible warmth, kindness and support demonstrated by the Brighton school community. Each and every card and well wish is both shared and appreciated.
