The New York State Public Service Commission voted Oct. 13 to reauthorize the state's Energy Efficiency Portfolio Standard initiative, ensuring the availability of energy efficiency funding incentives to residential and commercial customers.
Thursday’s vote retains funding for 100 electric and gas programs providing benefits to residential and commercial customers during a four-year period from Jan. 1, 2012, to Dec. 31, 2015. The $510 million measure includes an increase of $18.7 million for low-income natural gas programs.
As a result, three energy-efficiency programs administered by National Fuel Gas of Buffalo, including its conservation incentive program, will be incorporated into EEPS.
Created three years ago, the EEPS initiative is designed to reduce electricity and natural gas consumption while increasing energy-related jobs.
