Bishop Kearney High School kicked off a series of three Irondequoit graduations in eight days with its annual commencement ceremony at 11 a.m. this past Saturday, June 9, at Roberts Wesleyan College.
The Eastridge High School graduation follows at 3 p.m. this Saturday, June 16, and the Irondequoit High School ceremony at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 17, both at the Eastman Theatre in Rochester.
Leading the about 86-member Bishop Kearney Class of 2012 was Valedictorian Daniel G. Connors of Rochester and Salutatorian Zachary T. Kirisits of Pittsford.
The commencement speaker was Captain Steven F. Momano, U.S. Navy (retired), who grew up in the town of Irondequoit and graduated from Kearney in 1979.
Most recently, Momano was assigned to the Defense Intelligence Agency, where he held dual roles as both the director of the Joint Military Intelligence Training Center and commanding officer of the DIA Navy Element.
Momano, who retired in November 2008, earned numerous medals throughout his career. He now lives in Greece, and works as a freelance writer and historical researcher.
