Authorities say one of two brothers who drowned while boating in the Irondequoit Bay was the father of two of the four children on board when the men disappeared in the water.

According to newspartner News10NBC, a family member has identified the two people as 29-year-old Keo Nhong and his 27-year-old brother, Chanta Nhong. Rescue crews recovered the bodies Tuesday night.

Officials say the group was tubing and when the driver turned the boat to head back to shore, one of the children fell into the water.

Another child was able to hold onto the tube. The two children made it in the boat safely, but were told Nhong went under.

The other man jumped in to help and both men disappeared soon after. All four children were later rescued.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office, Coast Guard and West Webster Fire Department responded to the scene along Irondequoit Bay, near the former Glen Edith restaurant off Bay Road.

Messenger Post news partner News10NBC reported that the West Webster Fire Department said they received a call around 2 p.m. on Tuesday for the report of a possible drowning. When crews arrived, they found three children under the age of 10 in a boat. One of the children had called 911 from a cell phone that was on the boat.

Scuba and marine units from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department and the U.S. Coast Guard conducted the search.
