A meeting by chance in the middle of a Greece road has led to a long road of wedded bliss.
Thomas and Rose Falzone recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary at their new home — St. Ann’s Community on Portland Avenue.
The couple met after Rose’s brother wanted to introduce her to his friend, Tom. The two went to school together and attended the same church but had not yet met.
“The next day after dinner, there was someone at the door,” Rose said. “And who was it? Tom. The next night, there was Tom. And I’ve seen Tom every day since that day I met him.”
The two married a year later, on July 20, 1940, at Most Precious Blood Church, with a small honeymoon to follow in Niagara Falls.
After 70 years together, they have different ideas of love but they know love is what they find in each other.
“You can take some, and you can give some, but you can’t take it all,” Rose said. “And don’t go to bed mad.”
For Tom, he says he could give a lot of answers, but looked to his wife for the right one.
“Well, what do you want me to say?” he asked.
But he could chose his favorite part of loving Rose for 70 years — “everything.”
He remembers clear as day what he noticed first about 17-year-old Rose — “her beautiful legs,” he said with a smirk.
The couple built their home in Greece in 1962, and raised two children — Tommy and Michael — in it. Tom worked at Kodak for a while, until the company downsized. He then worked at a factory on Mt. Read Boulevard for 28 years.
The Falzones recently moved into the St. Ann’s Community, in the same building, but different rooms.
Rose has some advice for younger women looking to marry.
“Be happy with the little things, because the big things will come,” she said. “Make sure you love him.”
Together, the couple celebrated their 70 years of marriage with family and friends at the St. Ann’s Community.
“It was a blast,” Rose said. “I’m still as in love today as I was then.”
