Cooper Road got a new coat of pavement today.

Irondequoit Department of Public Works Commissioner Patrick Meredith said last week that Monroe County used the town of Irondequoit as a subcontractor on the $228,000 Cooper Road project, which started July 16 with milling and adjusting manholes and catch basins.

The work was a bit of a “logistical nightmare,” Meredith conceded, explaining that the county had asked the town to maintain two-way traffic during the work, “but we quickly realized we couldn’t.”

During much of the work, Cooper was reduced to one-way, northbound. Southbound traffic was asked to use St. Paul Boulevard to Titus Avenue. The good news is that the project on the busy north-south street between St. Paul Boulevard and Titus Avenue was complete in just over a week.
Meredith said the project happened pretty quickly.

“The county just brought it to the town’s attention a couple of months ago,” Meredith said. Cooper Road is a county roadway.

The town should see a little over $50,000 in revenue from doing to the project, Meredith added.

Irondequoit public works foreman Tony Ferrara explained that the town gets reimbursed through the county for different projects they have.

Ferrara added that the town expected to be doing today’s paving with crews from four different area towns.

“We have also been involved with Pattonwood Drive and will be clearing trees and brush on sections of Kings Highway for stabilization,” Ferrara said.
