Drivers needed to know oldtime TV, a little math, some Irondequoit history, and to be able to solve more than a few riddles as they made their way around Irondequoit yesterday, Sunday, Oct. 14, in the sixth annual Road Rally benefit.
The “reward” was a tasty chicken barbecue dinner prepared by Sticky Lips back at the rally starting point, the St. Paul Exempts club on Thomas Avenue in Irondequoit.
The event, sponsored by (and a fundraiser for) the Irondequoit Chamber of Commerce, Irondequoit Police Department, Irondequoit Food Cupboard and Finger Lakes Regional Burn Association, wrapped up with some oldtime rock and roll by none other than The Invictas, a popular band that got its start in the Summerville area of Irondequoit. The band ended with its famous “Do the Hump.”
“We’ve been doing this (road rally) for five years and came in third place in 2011 ... We’re going for second place this year,” Kyle Sassenhausen said before the event. His team did, indeed, place second this year.
The team of Ed, Debbie, George and Barb Messmer placed first.
