Despite heavy rains early in the day, the weather was actually perfect for the the East Irondequoit Lancer Marching Band's annual Rainbow of Stars field band competition this past Saturday night, Sept. 8.
The winning bands that night were from Lancaster, New Hartford and Victor.
Proceeds from the Rainbow of Stars show support the band's needs during the 2012 competitive season.
Lancer band director Jeff Hoffman said eight bands were scheduled to compete at the show, including some new faces: New Hartford and Oswego."
Eastridge is in the Small School 1 division with New Hartford, and reigning state champion Medina.
Competing in the Large Schools divisions were Lancaster, Greece, Webster, and Victor.
"I think the crowd enjoyed high caliber performances from some of the best bands in the state," Hoffman said.
Eastridge High School's Lancer Marching Band is celebrating its 35th season in the New York State Field Band Conference. The group’s storied and successful history includes winning six NYSFBC Championships.
Lancer band staff includes Scott Hoffman, Dave Savine, Francois Auclair, Jordan Champion, Sarah Gibbs, Jenn Pulleyn, Ashley Wojtczak, Cam Griffith, and Katie Aldridge. Music is arranged by Nick Baratta, and drill design is by Francois Auclair.
The Lancer band is led on the field by drum major Emily DiMuro.
Commitment, Pride, and Excellence signify the goals the Lancers strive for on and off the field.
Field bands' September/October competitive season will lead up to the NYS Field Band Championships at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse on Sunday, October 28.
