State Senator Jim Alesi and other state officials today announced that several job-creation projects will receive state funds through the second round of Regional Economic Development Council awards.
For Irondequoit’s I-Square project, the awards mean nearly $450,000 for a project called “Green Stormwater,” to support rainwater harvesting and reuse, porous pavement, rain gardens and “green” roofs as part of the redevelopment project in the Cooper Road-Titus Avenue area.
The award announcement also says the 92,000 square foot urban town square will also have state of the art infrastructure and eco-friendly amenities.
In other I-Square news, the Irondequoit Town Board is having a special workshop meeting at 2 p.m. tomorrow, Thursday, Dec. 20, and the only item on the agenda is a discussion on the I-Square project, which has been at a standstill since developer Mike Nolan requested a 25-year PILOT (payment in lieu of taxes) agreement and the board only approved a 10-year PILOT.
The I-Square project is in Alesi’s 55th state senate district. Alesi, a Republican, did not seek reelection this year and will be succeeded, come Jan. 1, by Democrat Ted O’Brien of Irondequoit, who won the seat in this past November’s general election.
“For the second consecutive year, the Finger Lakes Regional Economic Development Council has received crucial state funding for projects that will strengthen our economy and help create and retain local jobs,” Alesi said.
“The second round of Regional Economic Development Council awards will deliver funding for critical projects and investments in communities across our state, helping put New Yorkers back
to work and rebuilding our economy,” New York Governor Andrew Cuomo added.
